Distributor & Venue Education Handbook

F-38 establishes a complete education and training system for distributors and venues operating under the DraftVerify Standard.
Its purpose is to ensure every handler of non-alcoholic (NA) draft understands:

  • identity protection
  • verification workflows
  • safety requirements
  • operational responsibilities
  • compliance documentation

Education is the core mechanism that prevents mis-serve, contamination, and identity failure.


1. Purpose of This Handbook

This handbook provides:

  • A universal training curriculum
  • Standardized learning modules
  • Onboarding requirements for distributors & venues
  • Safety and identity fundamentals
  • Practical instructions for day-to-day operations
  • Assessment and certification methods

Training ensures NA draft remains accurately identified, safely served, and fully traceable from brewery to faucet.


2. Scope

Applies to:

  • Distributor staff (receiving, warehouse, transport, and delivery)
  • Venue staff (managers, bartenders, taproom operators)
  • Any third party handling NA kegs under the DraftVerify identity chain

This handbook supports and expands on:

3. Training Modules Overview

Each module builds on the DraftVerify identity framework.

Module 1 — NA Draft Identity 101

Covers:

  • Why NA must remain separate
  • Cross-contamination risks
  • Identity chain from keg → coupler → line → faucet
  • Digital identity (DTI, URLs, registry mapping)

Module 2 — Physical Identification Standards

Teaches:

  • Colors, collars, tag placement
  • F-6 through F-9 visual rules
  • How to inspect for damage or tampering

Module 3 — Verification Workflows

Core of DraftVerify operations:

  • How to scan NFC tags
  • How to interpret verification pages
  • When to scan (always before tapping or delivering)
  • Documenting events

Module 4 — Distributor-Specific Operations

Includes:

  • Receiving inspections
  • Storage & NA separation
  • Transport rules
  • Delivery procedures
  • Documentation requirements (F-15–F-17)

Module 5 — Venue-Specific Operations

Includes:

  • Cooler organization
  • Line mapping and faucet setup
  • NA-first line assignment
  • Switching procedures (F-39)
  • Staff responsibilities

Module 6 — Cleaning & Maintenance

Covers:

  • Daily & weekly logs (F-19, F-21)
  • Faucet & line cleaning cycles
  • Gas safety basics (F-26)

Module 7 — Incident Recognition & Reporting

Includes:

  • Mis-serve detection
  • Contamination recognition
  • Activation mismatches
  • Reporting workflows (F-22, F-35)

Module 8 — Compliance & Certification

Teaches:

  • Scoring criteria (F-31, F-33, F-37)
  • What causes certification failure
  • Corrective action workflows

4. Learning Outcomes

After training, all personnel must be able to:

  • Identify NA draft visually and digitally
  • Demonstrate scanning before tapping or delivery
  • Handle kegs without damaging tags
  • Follow cooler organization rules
  • Execute a full NA line changeover
  • Document cleaning, deliveries, audits
  • Respond immediately to identity or safety issues

5. Training Formats

Training may be delivered through:

  • In-person demonstrations
  • Online learning sessions
  • Printed materials
  • Training videos
  • On-site walkthroughs
  • Hybrid models (recommended)

Future versions will include interactive LMS modules.


6. Assessment & Certification

Every trainee must complete:

6.1 Knowledge Assessment

10–20 question quiz covering:

  • Identity basics
  • Verification sequences
  • NA separation rules
  • Incident recognition

6.2 Practical Demonstration

Trainee must demonstrate:

  • Scanning a Coupler Tag
  • Identifying correct Line Tag
  • Performing a proper keg switch
  • Locating documentation logs

6.3 Certification Issuance

Certification valid for 12 months.
Re-certification required:

  • Annually
  • After any incident
  • After major staff turnover

7. Role-Specific Responsibilities

7.1 Distributor Staff

  • Maintain NA separation at all times
  • Verify identity before loading and delivering
  • Inspect Coupler Tag integrity
  • Report any mismatches immediately
  • Keep accurate records (delivery logs, verification scans)

7.2 Venue Staff

  • Scan before tapping every keg
  • Maintain cooler organization
  • Match keg → line → faucet (F-8, F-9)
  • Complete cleaning and verification logs
  • Notify managers and distributors of any irregularities

7.3 Managers / Supervisors

  • Ensure staff training is current
  • Maintain system maps and documentation
  • Coordinate with auditors
  • File incident reports when needed

8. Required Materials for Training Sites

Training sites must have:

  • NFC-enabled phone or scanner
  • Example NA keg (real or demo)
  • Coupler with properly placed tag
  • Line Tag and Faucet ID samples
  • Cooler map or draft system diagram
  • Cleaning & verification log sheets

Optional but recommended:

  • Projector or screen
  • Recorded demonstrations

9. Ongoing Education Requirements

Continuing education required:

  • When any DraftVerify standard is updated
  • When equipment or draft layouts change
  • After an incident or audit failure
  • During seasonal onboarding cycles

Annual refresher course strongly recommended.


10. Training Documentation Requirements

Distributors & venues must keep:

  • Staff training logs
  • Certification dates
  • Quiz results
  • Practical assessment notes
  • Corrective action follow-ups

Records must be maintained for 5 years.
